Course will be run by Emily of North Devon Explorers.
This is for those members who have paddled a Sea kayak already in slightly wavy/windy conditions and can keep it in a straight line, basic steerage and happy with capsizing and understand basic sea kayaking principles.
The training will essentially be focusing on the old 3 star skills (developing a wider range of strokes and refining existing techniques) as well as looking at what you need to consider when planning a trip: the kit you need for trips, understanding tides and weather, a knowledge of access issues, being aware of other people’s paddling abilities plus rescues, both peer and self-rescues.
This course is going to be run over 6 weeks on a Wednesday evening meeting from 6pm being on the water 7pm-9pm. The venue will change week to week based on weather, tides and what the syllabus requires, it will use the North Devon coast, the River Torridge and Westward Ho!
As long as weather and tides allow, the sessions will be held on:
If a week can’t happen due to the weather, then we will provide an alternative Wednesday to make up for the missed session.
The cost of this training is £45 which must be paid in full prior to the training commencing (Please make a bank transfer to the club using the reference – inter Sea YOUR NAME). Regretfully we can not refund any missed weeks if you can not make some weeks due to covering the coaches’ expenses.
If you need a club boat, these can be hired for £30 (£5/session). You will need to be able to collect the boat from the clubhouse and transport it to the venue and return it afterwards. You will be responsible for cleaning all the equipment you borrow when handing it back to the club (boats can be cleaned at the club). This can be paid weekly or in one go.
There are a limited number of club boats available and so it will be on a first come first served booking system.
