Hi All!

Ok next next Saturday I will run a canoe trip to the Lower Lower Dart. From Austins Bridge, Buckfastleigh to Staverton.

This is a lovely stretch of river with some easy G2 rapids and lots of training opportunities. The perfect next step for those of you who have been paddling regularly this season.

In addition to the usual equipment each canoe will need a trolley to take on the river ready for when we get out!

New Guidance on Maintaining Training and CPD

A new guidance document has been added to the website in the Guidance Section of the document library providing Guidance on Maintaining Training and CPD . It is important that our coaches and leaders not only hold British Canoeing qualifications but also ensure that their validity of their qualifications is maintained by ensuring that they are current On the Water Members of British Canoeing and that their safeguarding, CPD and First Aid certifications are up to date. To make this as easy as possible Guidance on Maintaining Training and CPD has been published on the website to provide easy access to a host of learning resources.
Hiring Club Equipment 🙁

BCC regrets that we are unable to offer club trips or hire out our kayaks to the general public. We are not a business and therefore do not have the requisite insurance or paid coaching staff to do so. However, if you are interested in trying out kayaking, two of our members are qualified coaches and run their own kayaking business. Peer Paddles aka Independent Paddling

Peer paddles are not organised by or the responsibility of the club and are not covered by our insurance. On an Independent Paddle no one takes overall responsibility for the safety or well-being of the group. There is no designated leader or river leadership, assumed or otherwise. Someone may co-ordinate meeting times and venues, but has no more authority than any other participant. Everyone takes full responsibility for their own kit and safety whilst behaving in a responsible way. Paddlers in the group have a duty of care and are expected to look out for themselves and each other whilst staying within their own limitations. You need to:- – be confident in the water/conditions you are paddling in, – be comfortable in the abilities of others in the peer group, – do your own risk assessment based on water levels, weather conditions etc, – be realistic about your ability, if in doubt walk around a section or just go to the cafe.
